P/S: I procrastinate again to update this
short trip post which supposed to be updated last year.
The plan
never chases up the changes.
It
is amazing that I had second short tip with my classmates again.
This
time we went to the state which is called the pearl of the orient and it is
also a food paradise --- Penang!
Why
we suddenly decided to have a trip?
This is because my classmate found a
booking hotel website that had a promotion now, and she desired so much to go
to Penang as she missed the food there.
We
booked the bus tickets which depart from TBS at
about 1.30 a.m., sounds crazy right? We simply thought that we can sleep in the
bus and reach there in the morning. We reached at TBS at about 12.00 a.m., we
just shopped everywhere while waiting for the bus. TBS, is a station which
include Sri Petaling LRT line, KTM line and KLIA Transit, it is like a small KL
Central.
There were still people around here although it was midnight already! |
However,
the bus delayed when we saw the time was already passed for minutes.(-__-)
Waiting... ... |
The
bus was double decked and we sat at the upper level, the air conditioner was so
cold and made us freezing.
However,
I didn’t sleep well and woke up few times during the way due to the insecurity. ( ̄▽ ̄)"
We
made a funny thing. We knew that the bus will stop at the Butterworth station
but we didn’t know that the bus will stop at the terminal station which is
Nibong station which is on the island side due to oversleep. When the bus
stopped, we just realized that we reached at a station that we were totally not
familiar with. Luckily, there were bus services there and we just took some
time to wait for the bus to the station near to our hostel.
For
your information, the Penang is divided into two parts: Land (Seberang Prai)
and Island (Georgetown). Ferry is used to connect both parts. Butterworth is at
the land side, if we stopped there, we had to take the ferry to come to the
island.
What am I looking? Just candid. |
We
took Rapid Penang bus to the ferry and then book a Uber trip to the hostel
nearby.
My
classmates booked a four people room of the hostel named Wassup Youth Hostel (Can direct Google Map) with
offered price which is RM150 through booking.com. We checked in there in the
morning and deposit is required to give. I was satisfied with the room as it
was clean and equipped with air conditioner, two tackled beds, two small
bathrooms, four small metal cupboards with locks and a hair dryer.
The beds |
The
rooms were on the upstairs. At the ground level, there is a living room equipped
with game instruments (childhood memories!). There was a small kitchen at the
corner and it was amazing to see a small swimming pool there! This hostel is
quite suitable for the family to stay in as the surrounding is quiet and
peaceful.
We
went to the Kek Seng Café which was opposite
to the hostel to eat breakfast. We ate fried kuey teow, kuey teow soup, durian
ice cream and also kacang ice! The ice-cream was quite nice as the durian
favour is thick enough, those who is a durian lover can have a try!
Char kuey teow~recommended!!(❤ ω ❤) |
Black coffee~it is quite bitter as it is thick enough |
Kuey teow soup~a nice try |
Durian ice cream~recommend it!!!(❤ ω ❤) |
Menu |
Later, we went to Pulau Tikus (it is a place not an island name!) to eat again by Grabcar to have food hunting. We ate fried kuey teow, asam laksa, chicken rice and so on.
Chicken rice |
Char kuey teow again~ a nice try!! |
Asam laksa~recommend it!!(❤ ω ❤) |
After
that, we went to Kek Lok Si Temple through
Grabcar again. We met a very friendly, local driver which talked to us where
the delicious food located.
At
the temple, we just walked around and bought some souvenirs. We bought some
local foods. Because of the renovation, there are less people coming now.
Souvenir that I bought, original flavor is better than this pandan flavor because it tasted less sweet. |
We
took bus back to the hostel and we rested and slept for about two hours as we
did not sleep well in the bus. LOL.
After
that, we went out to find the food court nearby to enjoy the dinner. We walked
along the streets until we saw a hotel nearby a beach. We enjoyed the scenery
and took some photos.
There is a jetty because it was closed |
Hello~~(●'◡'●) |
We
walked back and went to another direction but we lost the way as we walked to a
place that are less shops opened. We only chose to book a car back to the big
food court passed by.
Also, don’t simply walk into the small streets
behind the buildings, as we don’t know where we actually are. We had
a bad experience walking into the small, quiet street accidently and were
watched by the strangers sitting in front of the shops. We still feel nervous
when we walked out quickly.
We
found a food court named Red Garden Food Court.
There were many stalls which serves Asian dishes and some Western dishes. The
workers were trained and fluent in English, I was surprised and feel my English
may not be better than them as they can communicate with the foreigners
effectively!
We ordered fried oyster, Asam laksa, fried noodles and so
on. We chit chatted while enjoying the food and the handsome guys.(not
include me lol). After coming back from there, we went to the bar owned by
the hostel. I didn’t drink any alcoholic drinks while my friends did. The bar
is quiet and clean, not the bar that we always assume.
Just want to take a photo ( ̄▽ ̄)" |
On the following day, we had a breakfast at the opposite
café again before we checked out. I ate the char kuey teow again. We went to
the jetty (Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda Ferry Terminal or Penang Jetty) to take
the ferry to the land side of the Penang to take the bus back to the hostel. Also,
there was a bus station outside the jetty, how convenience was!
I really like this char kuey teow!! (❤ ω ❤) RM6.50 for big size. |
The ferry took about 20
minutes to reach the destination--Butterworth (Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim Ferry Terminal). The ferry
was big enough to accommodate vehicles and people. The fees for pedestrian and
vehicles were shown HERE. At that time, we felt quite odd why
we did not pay anything when we took the ferry from the island to the land.
This doubt was cleared when we asked one of our classmates that the return way
is free!
On the ferry~~~o(* ̄▽ ̄*)ブ |
Currently, the Butterworth station is under construction to
be a part of the Penang Sentral transport hub. So, we had to take a free bus
from the ferry to the bus and train stations. There were quite many people taking
this bus and there may be a traffic jam! Be bear in mind when you have to
depart earlier if you take the bus or train!
Our bus departed from 11.45 a.m. and we waited there for a
while as we reached earlier. However, we only reached TBS station at 6 p.m. in
the evening, which was later than we estimated. This is because the driver
stopped at a station for a long time. We went down to buy some bread for our
lunch.
Emo? Just want to enjoy the raining and relax. |
We reached hostel at about 7.30 p.m. The Uber fare is very
high due to the serious traffic jam. I only managed to cook fasten noodles as
my dinner as I felt tired already.
We missed something in this trip as we do not manage to try
out the food recommended by the Grabcar driver like Curry laksa, fried char
kuey teow, cendol and so on. However, we still enjoy the food throughout this short trip, it was like a short escape from reality. Although we have to face the reality, having a short break among it can help us to release our stress. It is a way of shifting our attention and calming ourselves instead of forcing ourselves to finish all the things. ( ̄▽ ̄)"
I
summarized the whole things as below:
PENANG 2 DAYS 1 NIGHT SHORT TRIP SUMMARY
- DATE : 6 to 7 October 2018
- TRANSPORT : Bus, Grabcar, Uber, Ferry

To
conclude, we didn’t go to the popular places because we just wanted to take
this chance to relax ourselves in the short trip. We just took it slowly and
enjoyed all the things in a different city. My friend also made a vlog again
about this short trip and here comes the video! Hope you guys enjoy it!
Thanks
for browsing and watching! Stay tune for the next coming post!
